The Vice President, General Manager, Japan, is responsible for all Operational Delivery activities in Japan. Furthermore, as the legally designated General Manager, this role is responsible for all activities related to the administration of any company, including responsibility for the P&L of Japan, legal and tax compliance, strategy setting, business development, marketing, recruiting and personnel management, and human resources functions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of Operations within Japan, including resource planning, deliverables, realization and utilization, staff performance appraisals, and annual salary reviews.
- Hire, onboard and train local staff in the country as well as identify and contract freelancers as needed.
- Develop Operations’ annual budgets and manage the P&L related to Operations.
- Develop any necessary Operational company policies and procedures for Japan, including customizing and/or creating all SOPs.
- Support/lead client interactions, including proposal meetings, proposal development and pricing, project feasibility, and capability and bid defense meetings.
- Develop and support marketing and branding initiatives in Japan, including representing Advanced Clinical at industry meetings and trade shows.
- Adhere to strict code of confidentiality as it relates to study subjects, sponsors, physicians and policies and procedures.
- Ensure Japan’s Operations align with the data privacy requirement.
- Integrate Japan within the Advanced Clinical environment to align corporate culture while considering country culture, regulatory requirements and legal requirements.
- Develop any necessary company policies and procedures for Japan.
- Manage financial performance of Japan including overall P&L, meeting operating margins and EBIDTA expectations.
- Manage the external tax compliance/accounting/payroll vendor(s) in collaboration with finance representatives.
- Be responsible for the oversight and approval of monthly/quarterly/annual accounting and financial reporting in collaboration with finance team.
- Remit taxes and social security contributions, assure all tax compliance in collaboration with Advanced Shared Services tax representatives.
- Observe general principles of proper accounting and balance-sheet reporting.
- Communicate with local government and industry authorities.
- Collaborate to outline transfer pricing methodology between subsidiaries and Advanced Clinical.
- Act in the best interests of the company.
- Refrain from competing with the company while holding the office of General Manager.
- Make the timely request to open insolvency proceedings.
- Follow all established company review and approval processes prior to signing any business agreements.
- Signing authority will align to company guidelines; No business transactions related to a company sale, merger or partnership may be signed without President/CFO or CEO request and approval.
Qualifications
- Requires an excellent understanding of the global clinical/pharmaceutical process so as to effectively communicate and create required deliverables.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of, and ability to, apply Regulatory requirements and all related guidelines.
- Possesses exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills and immense insights into the CRO and clinical research industry.
- Working experience with Asia Pac support services (HR, Tax, Finance, etc.) is required. Effective negotiation and interpersonal communication skills to interact with a variety of peers and constituents are necessary pre-requisite.
- Bachelor Degree as a minimum; Master’s Degree Preferred; Healthcare Background Preferred
- Training ICH, GCP (21 CFR 11), Privacy Rules and data protection laws
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of clinical research experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Must have worked within a CRO and developed locations globally Training
